India’s Ministry of External Affairs has recently announced that the country will begin issuing visas to Afghan nationals.

Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for the Ministry, made this announcement during a press conference, adding that visas will be provided to Afghan citizens.

The spokesperson also mentioned that movement between the two countries is currently taking place. However, Randhir Jaiswal noted that he does not have precise information regarding the number of visas issued to Afghan nationals.

This announcement comes in response to requests from Afghan students who had previously written to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, seeking visas to begin their new academic year in India. Since August 15, 2021, many Afghan students have faced uncertainty due to difficulties with visa renewals and scholarship extensions in India.

Many Afghan students who were pursuing their education in India have been left in a precarious situation due to the inability to obtain necessary visas and complete their studies. These students, who had been making significant progress in their academic pursuits, now find themselves stuck in Afghanistan, unable to return to their educational institutions in India.

In addition to the educational challenges, thousands of Afghan patients who were receiving medical treatment in India have also been adversely affected.

With the suspension of visa issuance, these individuals, who relied on Indian healthcare facilities for their ongoing treatment, are now left without the necessary medical care.

The situation for Afghan students and patients left behind underscores a pressing humanitarian crisis. Afghan students, who have invested years in their education, face the devastating prospect of abandoning their academic aspirations due to visa issues.
