One creator, @lauralestyle, racked up more than 3 million views over three viral videos of her bouclé bed, with comments like “I would not leave this bed” and “this room is so perfect”.

However, while they might be popular, according to experts they can get pretty gross.

Martin Seeley, Sleep Expert at MattressNextDay, has shared the shocking revelation that bouclé bed owners should be cleaning the fabric weekly, alongside the extensive routine to follow.

He says: “You will need a regular cleaning routine for one which uses bouclé fabric.

“Due to the texture of the fabric, it’s a fantastic place for dirt and bacteria to collect in the fibres. To avoid this, I would recommend cleaning it weekly.”

How to clean a bouclé bed

For an easy-to-follow bouclé cleaning routine, start by removing any dirt that has collected with either a soft bristle brush, so as not to snag the material, or a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery setting.

You can even utilise a lint roller to remove any stubborn dirt, such as pet hair.

Then turn your focus to spot cleaning any stains or discolouration.

For this, you’ll want to use a sensitive laundry detergent with no nasty chemicals and a clean microfibre cloth.

Alternatively, you can now find mild upholstery-specific cleaners in specialist shops.

Once you’ve applied your preferred solution, carefully pat it with the clean cloth so the mixture soaks in effectively. Then, simply leave this to air dry.

For an extra spritz of cleanliness, you can add the solution to a spray bottle and mist the fabric in its entirety and leave it to dry.

The most important element of this process is to ensure you’re gentle with the fabric.

Men VS Women: Who Puts the Work In?

Men spend 7 hours 54 minutes a week cleaning.

Women spend 12 hours 15 minutes a week cleaning.

Rubbing in the solution or vacuuming the fabric too hard can lead to damage.

For bouclé with damage, evident stains, or stubborn discolouration, your best bet is to hire a professional to conduct a deep clean.

Whilst this isn’t necessary unless the material visibly calls for it, it’s an additional investment you may need to make later down the line.
