Rep. Dean Phillips Is One of What Has Become an Increasingly Rare Breed

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) is one of a seemingly rare breed — an honest Democrat (a tip of the hat to Sen. John Fetterman as well, who has been a wonderful surprise; pardon me, Senator, for underestimating you). Phillips saw Joe Biden’s disruptive decline and chose to stand for America first, not his party’s elite cadre, and made a bid for the voters in the Democrat presidential primaries.

On the campaign trail, before being ignominiously squashed, he spoke of a very big problem out loud: Joe Biden’s incapability of discharging the duties of the most difficult job in the world. Talking to primary voters in January of this year, (which seems like a decade ago), Phillips talked about how his party knew and whispered to each other about the terrible reality, but were content to conceal it from the American voters: “We were having these conversations quietly. But when the cameras came on, it was ‘ridin’ with Biden.’” (READ MORE: Don’t Be Surprised If It’s Buttigieg)

Turns out, the Dems had seen the Biden dysfunction revealed beyond question as far back as October 2021. It was then that Biden met with the Democratic Congressional caucus to help push forward his giant trillion-dollar infrastructure legislation. An article in the Wall Street Journal reports:

In 30 minutes of remarks on Capitol Hill, Biden had spoken disjointedly and failed to make a concrete ask of lawmakers, according to Democrats in the room. After he left, a visibly frustrated [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi told the group she would articulate what Biden had been trying to say, one lawmaker said.

That lawmaker was Dean Phillips, whose honest thought on what he had seen led him to challenge his own party’s incumbent. Of that October performance, Phillips recalled for the Journal: “It was the first time I remember people pretty jarred by what they had seen.”

‘Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain’

Only Dems saw that addled performance. Aside from Phillips, most of them chose to act like the Wizard of Oz, and scold anyone looking past the projected image: “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!”

Phillips, sadly, no more succeeded in the role of Toto than did the various MAGA-types who pointed out the same dysfunction. The reveal took a few years to happen. In the meantime, most others chose not to see. Many actively deceived. Even this year, when Biden gave what seemed like a meth-fueled angry rant for a State of the Union address, seasoned liar Rep. Jerrold Nadler saw only more glory and declared: “Nobody’s going to talk about cognitive impairment now!” (READ MORE: The Left’s Political Machine Is About to Kick Into Gear)

The rest of America had to wait until the Trump debate to find out just how much they had been bamboozled.

The question to be asked about this shameful deception is a slight variation on the one Howard Baker asked to get to the bottom of another scandal: “What did they know and when did they know it?”

The Wall Street Journal article answers that question: They saw what everyone else saw at the debate nearly three years ago.

Democrats Won’t Admit They Made a Mistake

Being that we are all imperfect, the crucial question is what do we do when we have erred? As so many remarked after Watergate, it was the coverup more than the burglary that riled the public.

So with the Biden deception revealed, one might think that the Democrats would quickly own up to their mistake.

One would be wrong.

Search Biden’s graceless tweet announcing his quitting for any acknowledgment of his infirmity, and you won’t find it. Look among the backroom bosses, as they used to call them, and all you will find is nothing but praise for the nobility of this selfless man for thinking only of his country. Huh?

I thought that was why he served as president — to serve the country. Do they agree with Republicans that the best thing for the country is for him to not be president again? It seems the only problem they are motivated to act on is that Biden was floundering in the polls. That is inexcusable. Their power was threatened. That is their concern.

Search their statements and you find precious little. Just move right along, America, we’ve got it all scripted for you just like it was for Biden at his pressers. Stand here, say this, and respond to the memes we broadcast as you have been trained. Continue not to pay attention to whoever is now behind the curtain. Be happy with lies! We have lots of goodies we may choose to give you if you cooperate and lots of hurt if you don’t. Believe us.

And now, after days of Scranton Joe’s being invisible, probably because that’s how he must prepare now for any public appearance, no matter how short or how scripted, that is the official line.

You didn’t see what you saw. Pay no attention. As the ever-truthful Karine Jean-Pierre informed us: “First of all, there’s been no cover-up; want to be very clear about that.”

They have lived by the lie and they are doubling down on it. They choose to manipulate, not communicate, with the voters. We, the People? No, we the rulers. We write the script, even for presidents.

Democrats Won’t Reward Dean Phillips For His Honesty

You might have thought that after being exposed in their coverup, the Democrats would have turned towards redemption, showing the voters, who are the sovereigns in this republic, that they have changed and that they earnestly seek redemption. Some Democrats seemed to have that inclination. The Journal quoted Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas:

I am really concerned about what we were not told during these months. … I remain concerned about that—that for whatever reasons, this overprotective, stage-managed kind of operation not only appears to have denied the American people broadly of an understanding of the president’s current situation, but also other elected officials.

But if you thought those who are running the Dem show are inclined in Rep. Doggett’s direction, you would be wrong. Dean Phillips, who had the guts to tell the truth and stand up for it at great cost and who came to the voters with the truth, has not been asked to accept the nomination, or even to stand for it on the floor of an open convention.

No. Liars need to control everything; openness is anathema. They fear that an open convention would expose the deals they have made to stay in charge. They do not want another Wild in the Streets Chicago showing the violence and anarchy of those whom they have admitted to their councils of power. Bari Weiss in the Free Press calls this moment the Era of the Noble Lie. She writes:

The reason the most basic elements of the Democratic (and democratic) process are being so dramatically challenged—is because of the lie that everyone around Joe Biden told themselves and then told the public.

By now, there is no denying that that’s exactly what happened.

Yet they do deny it — by acting as if it has never happened. And they want you to act that way, as well.

The overlords have made their decision — it is Kamala who will be anointed without a fuss in a scripted convention in which the great gaslighting of America about Biden’s health likely will never be apologized for or even mentioned.

Will they succeed in wrenching the curtain away from Toto and directing our attention away?

It is up to us — We, the People — to answer that.
