COMMERCE, Calif. – Aram Amirkhanyan is making the move up the welterweight division ladder.

In a clash of unbeaten welterweights, Amirkhanyan defeated Gor Yeritsyan by unanimous decision on Friday, June 26 before a pro-Yeritsyan crowd at the Commerce Casino. Amirkhanyan would win the a WBC regional title belt.

Midway through round two, a sweeping left cross connected to the head of Yeritsyan, who was not visibly hurt, but momentarily lost his balance from the impact of the punch.

The southpaw Amirkhanyan began focusing his attack to the body behind jabs to the face in round three. With about a minute left in the round, a straight right hand snapped Amirkhanyan’s head back. Yeritsyan landed another right hand to the head moments before the end of the round.

Both fighters had their moments during the middle rounds. Yeritsyan did well mixing his attack to the head and body, connecting with sweeping right cross to the head of Amirkhanyan. Yeritsyan also landed his share of left and right hands to the body.

Yeritsyan was able to effectively outbox Amirkhanyan by utilizing distance and repeatedly countering with straight rights or right crosses to the head. A cut appeared over Yeritsyan’s right eye in round eight, likely from an accidental clash of heads

Amirkhanyan did find success in spots, at times backing Yeritsyan up against the ropes and throwing combinations that did connect. Sensing he was behind, Amirkhanyan was on the offensive during the final two rounds. Amirkhanyan was the busier fighter, landing more punches, but the few punches he did connect did not hurt Yeritsyan, who effectively countered and outboxed Amirkhanyan.
