Queen’s Park 2 Aberdeen 3

It was heartache for the young Spiders as two goals for Aberdeen inside the final five minutes turned what looked like a win in the first game of the new CAS Elite League into defeat.

A sunny, but windy day welcomed the two sides to Lochinch. Aberdeen kicked off facing the wind with Queen’s making the early push, Connor Falls looking sharp.

As the game settled down both sides were evenly matched and looked to play football out from the back.

Queen’s were exploiting the width of the pitch with Smith and McGinlay using their pace to get beyond the back line.

Aberdeen were also fast going forward with Searle down the right wing.

It was Queen’s who broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when Sam MacLachlan evaded his marker to shoot across the keeper into the far corner of the net from just inside the box.

1-0 to Queen's

Aberdeen equalised just before half time when a cross from wide right ricocheted off the Queen’s bar before being returned back into the box for Aberdeen’s Clark to fire the ball into the corner of the net.

Two minutes into the second half McGinlay tested the Dons keeper from 16 yards out.

Aberdeen responded with a fast break resulting in Sliwinski pulling off a super point blank save from eight yards out.

The Dons side were awarded a penalty in the 53rd minute when Carrol was brought down. Sliwinski dived to his left to push the attempt away. Another outstanding save by the young keeper.

Penalty saved

Aberdeen pushed and pushed for a goal, creating a number of chances, but the Queen’s back line stood tall.

The young Spiders survived a ten-minute spell of pressure and came back into the game with Falls and Smith having attempts on goal.

In the 73rd minute Queen’s added a second when Smith cut in from the right, had a shot which was deflected, MacLachlan beat the Dons defender to the ball to knock it home from 10 yards out.

Four minutes from time Aberdeen equalised. A cross from the left was missed by the Queen’s defence leaving Akindileni to head the ball off the bar and over the line.

Just over a minute later it would be Aberdeen who took all three points when Stephen met a low cross and fired home the winner from 10 yards out.
