The experienced flight attendant has since worked for United Airlines but retired this year after witnessing a drastic change in the airline industry.

The 76-year-old revealed that she’s seen a big difference in what passengers wear for their flights.

In the 70s and 80s travellers regularly wore formal clothing at the airport, according to the veteran air hostess.

However, these days the flight attendant sees passengers turning up in “pyjamas” for their flight.

“People used to dress up,” Joan added.

“When people dress well, they behave better.

“In first class, people used to look forward to the service, now they just want space and a TV dinner.”

Pan Am was synonymous with the Golden Age of air travel and Joan catered to A-list celebrities during her tenure with the airline.

At one point, it was the largest international airline in the United States and the first carrier to fly passengers in the jumbo jet.

Joan described how intense her job was, serving the rich and famous travelling between London, the US, and India.

The former air hostess revealed they were sent home if their appearance was below the company’s standard.

Yet, Joan loved her role and was treated with respect because of the airline she worked for.

The experienced flyer rubbed shoulders with the likes of George Harrison and Tom Jones, she claimed.

The luxury airline would later collapse following 64 years of successful voyaging.

Yet, Pan Am is set to make a glorious comeback in the summer of 2025.

The revamped Pan American World Airways will host a commemorative trip for just 50 lucky passengers.

The 12-day journey was inspired by the airline’s original transatlantic routes.

The flights will take travellers from New York to Bermuda and on to Lisbon, Marseilles, London and Foynes in Ireland, before heading back to New York.

Tickets will cost a whopping £50,950 for solo travellers and £46.633 per person for those travelling in pairs.

It comes after a flight attendant revealed why passengers should always bring their own food on the plane.

And this air hostess has shared the worst kind of passengers she’s been forced to deal with on flights.
