With rumours swirling around the transfer market constantly through the summer, it’s hard to know what deals will or won’t come to fruition. However, we shouldn’t get our hopes up for one potential swap deal between Aston Villa and Tottenham.

That’s according to journalist, John Townley, who has been discussing the speculation suggesting Aston Villa may be ready to accept an offer of £20m plus Giovani Lo Celso in exchange for their young midfielder, Jacob Ramsey.

He told the Claret and Blue podcast: “Spurs definitely want him and they are using Lo Celso as a carrot because Emery really likes Lo Celso and he’s a good player.

Spurs are using that as an incentive. I don’t see how Lo Celso ends up in the team. I think it would be a dreadful deal because you don’t have to sell Ramsey.

“Can I see Ramsey leaving for Tottenham? At the moment I think it’s unlikely. Tottenham would have to put down huge money. Johan Lange is a big fan of Jacob Ramsey and he knows Villa inside out.

“Can I see this going away? Probably not. I don’t think Lange will be deterred even though it has gone quiet since last month when it was first spoken about.”

What’s the deal?

This month, speculation surrounding both Ramsey and Lo Celso has intensified. DSport revealed an agreement was in place between the two clubs, while Fabrizio Romano confirmed there was definite interest on both sides for the deal.

Either way, it is believed Spurs are very keen on signing Ramsey, but with a valuation of £50m on his head, it seems the Lilywhites are not willing to pay such a high fee to make a switch happen (Football Insider).

This is one of those deals where, if it happens, I would be happy, but if it falls through, I wouldn’t lose any sleep. Ramsey is a very good young player with a bright future, but there are other options out there.
