Postecoglou made transfer decision over Spurs pair

While the majority of the squad boarded the flight to Japan, Sergio Reguilon and Bryan Gil were left back at Hotspur Way to secure their respective exits from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Reguilon started last season on loan at Manchester United and then joined Brentford in January for the remainder of the campaign, also on a temporary basis.

The Spaniard’s wage demands put a stop on any prospect of Brentford making the deal permanent (The Athletic), whereas his salary would not pose a problem to United.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Reguilon would welcome the opportunity to return to Old Trafford to continue his career.

United activated a break clause in Reguilon’s season long-loan agreement to send him back to North London in January in what they described as ‘in the best interests of all parties’.

Sergio Reguilon would be keen on Man Utd return

Reguilon was signed by United to act as cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia while both were out with long-term injuries.

Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing article: “Sergio Reguilon was very happy in Manchester. if Man United decided to return for Sergio Reguilon, he would be keen on a move.

“He loved his time at Man United, it was a short-time, [but] he was very happy, with the club, with the tactical idea.”

Reguilon may have enjoyed his time at United and like many players, would love the opportunity to play for them again, however, it appears unlikely that they will go back in for him.

A move back to Spain could be the best option for the left-back if the opportunity arose, having previously had a stint to forget at Atletico Madrid.
