Fact Check: Indian Men’s 4x400m Relay Team Qualify For Final At Paris Olympics 2024?

The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team consists of Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh.

Paris: The Indian men’s 4x400m relay became a victim of misinformation even before the athletics event at the Paris Olympics 2024 started after retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi posted a video of them that allegedly stated they almost defeated the USA team while clocking the national record. She also captioned the video, “India makes it to finals. Have a look. #OlympicGames.”

With the Paris Olympics 2024 going on, the video created a buzz in the social media and netizens started congratulating the Indian team. Even celebrities like veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher and India women’s cricketer Harleen Deol also posted about the same.

Is that the video from the Paris Olympics 2024?

The answer is NO. The video dates back last year when India made the final of men’s 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest by finishing second behind USA in Heats. The Indian quartet of Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh clocked 2:59.05s to break National and Asian records. In the final, the Indian quartet clocked 2:59.92s and finished a creditable fifth.

Upon realizing her mistake, Harleen quickly took down the video from her social media handle. For the unknown, the same team will start on August 9 in the men’s 4x400m relay qualification. The final is scheduled a day later.
