I found a way to get money to spend at Lidl using your rubbish – it’s totally free & saves waste
A BARGAIN hunter has revealed they were left amazed by discovering you can get money off your shop in Lidl simply by bringing your rubbish back to the supermarket.
The woman showed how she recycled her old cans in a machine – and it gave her a voucher to spend in Lidl.
On her @patsyslife2023 account, she wrote: “Lidl has a recycling point we took our cans and bottles we saved for 2 weeks.
“We got £2.45 off our shopping bill.
“Amazing for the environment and good for my food bill.”
The woman showed how she took a bag of old cans to Lidl and added them one-by-one to the machine.
She added: “5p per can or plastic bottle (no multi pack cans or bottles as it must have a barcode.”
After adding five plastic bottles and 42 cans, the screen showed her she had racked up £2.45 to spend.
The machine printed her a receipt with a barcode that she could scan at the till and it would come off her bill.
She added that the total wasn’t much but said: “Every little helps.
“I’m happy to put £2.45 to my shopping I got bread and milk from that.”
Many people were impressed, with one saying: “Great idea.”
Another added: “I don’t understand why England doesn’t start using them!!! I had no idea they don’t exist in the uk when I came here.”
However, one wrote: “the money back is too small for people to care.”
The Lidl Return Scheme is currently being trialled in Glasgow, Scotland, in a number of stores.
The website states: “The Lidl Return Scheme is a voluntary return scheme for certain drinks containers sold to consumers in Scotland which are made from polyethylene terephthalate plastic (PET plastic) and aluminium.
“Instead of receiving a voucher, the customer can opt to make a charity donation.
“The value of the charity donation will be calculated in the same way as a voucher.
“The recipient of the charity donation is STV Children’s Appeal.”
