Redditor Lelabear shared the anti-aging beauty tip in a post.

“My daughter met an older lady (she had to check her ID) with the most beautiful skin and asked her what she did to keep it so fresh,” she said.

The kind stranger revealed that her secret was sugar and plain yogurt.

Taking her skincare advice to heart, she explained that her daughter decided to try her homemade treatment.

“My daughter tried a sugar scrub followed by yogurt (cold cream, right?) and has had great results,” she said.

“When she saw the lady again, she thanked her, and the lady was amazed she’d actually tried it.”

The stranger explained that even though her technique was relatively affordable and straightforward, most people didn’t believe that it would work.

“[She] said she’d been answering that question for years, and no one before had ever taken her seriously!” she said.

Yogurt provides myriad skincare benefits, including moisture retention and increased UV ray protection, according to Healthline.

Not only does a yogurt mask help lock in moisture, but a 2011 study suggested that it can also potentially increase elasticity and brighten the skin.

“As you age, your skin naturally loses collagen, a type of protein that promotes elasticity,” Healthline explained.

“Face masks may help restore elasticity while improving overall skin appearance.”

Thanks to yogurt’s natural probiotics, those with sun or acne scars may notice a more even skin tone.

An occasional yogurt mask can even reverse age spots caused by sun damage, a 2015 study found.

“Research suggests that yogurt may help minimize the effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays in the first place,” said Healthline.

“It’s thought that yogurt may help create a free radical neutralizing barrier against the skin, which in turn reduces the risk of sun damage-induced age spots and wrinkles.”

Yogurt’s natural antibacterial properties also help the skin fight acne, inflammation, infections, and various skin conditions.

“According to that same research from 2015, probiotics reduce overall inflammation, which may in turn soothe acne and help to prevent future breakouts,” Healthline said.

“These include rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema.”
