Tottenham Hotspur have a number of irons in the fire this summer. It figures, then, that they don’t want to waste too much time pursuing players who might not even want to join them.
Does Doue have a desire to join Spurs?
One such player could be Desire Doue. The young French midfielder currently plays for Rennes, but is wanted by PSG and Bayern Munich among others, including Spurs.
But, the Lilywhites are keen to ascertain whether the player actually has any interest in them. That’s according to Ben Jacobs, who discussed the matter on The Debrief podcast.
Jacobs said: “Bayern and PSG are the two that are in active negotiations. It’s head-to-head between them at the moment. In the last two weeks, we’ve seen Tottenham enter the race as well to try to understand if the player would like to go there.
“Rennes argue they wouldn’t want to sell and are looking for €60m (£50m) or more.”
PSG and Bayern lead the race
If Spurs are indeed keen on signing Doue, they should move quickly and decisively. The player has already been the subject of two bids as things stand, from Bayern Munich and then PSG.
Rennes are thought to be looking for £42m for the exciting young talent, but Bayern’s initial offer was only worth £29m (HITC).
Since then, PSG reportedly entered the bidding war with an offer totalling that £42m region, with £33.6m up front, and another £8.4m in add-ons (Florian Plettenberg).

I really like Doue and he would be a brilliant addition to our team, but with two European giants circling, it’s always hard to know whether Spurs stand a chance.
Of course, we’ve seen Tottenham beat Bayern and Barcelona to big signings already this year, so who knows, maybe Doue can be persuaded by a Postecoglou phone call.
