1st T20I of the 3-match series Against India: Sri Lanka Spinner Uses Both Hands to Bowl- Rule Says

Sri Lanka spin bowler Kamindu Mendis left experts and fans alike, as he shocked both of them after he bowled with both his hands during the first T20I match against India.

The cricketer bowled with his left arm when he was facing Suryakumar Yadav, but then later on when facing Rishabh Pant, he switched and bowled with his right arm. though people were impressed by the cricketer’s talent, a lot were left wondering what the rule book says when a bowler uses both his hands to bowl during the same over.

Here is what the rule book says-

21.1.1 The umpire shall ascertain whether the bowler intends to bowl right handed or left handed, over or round the wicket, and shall so inform the striker.

It is unfair if the bowler fails to notify the umpire of a change in his/her mode of delivery.  In this case the umpire shall call and signal No ball.

In the match, Suryakumar Yadav was smooth but brutal in equal measure as his first day when India absolutely destroyed Sri Lankan bowling to score a massive 213 for 7.

In his first match as India’s T20 skipper, Surya had a solid play as he scored 58 off 26, keeping his aggressive approach as usual.

While Surya was at his dominating best when hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes in his route to his 20th half-century, the main base for India’s grand total was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 41 off 20 balls and Shubhman Gill’s 34 off 15 balls as they had a 74-run powerplay.
