Police open fire after man tries to stab officer in Sydney's Greater West

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - A man has been shot dead during an incident in a Greater Western Sydney suburb.

The man, 34, allegedly threatened police with a knife before allegedly attempting to stab an officer, who was saved by his bullet-proof vest.

Police say they then tasered the man however the taser was not effective and the man was ultimately shot by police.

The incident took place around 11:00pm
