The Gang Goes to Providence Park: 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' actors attend Thorns game

Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney attended a Thorns game in Providence Park, while the Wrexham AFC women's team set a record for attendance at their match against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The Gang (or at least half of them) were spotted attending a Thorns game in Providence Park Friday evening.

Portland native and actress Kaitlin Olson showed up to the match between the Thorns Academy and Wrexham AFC women's teams, along with husband Rob McElhenney, who co-owns the latter team with Ryan Reynolds.

Both Olson and McElhenney rose to fame on the FX/FXX comedy series, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," with both also starring in the show and McElhenney co-creating.

Olson has since appeared in various television and film roles, including "The Heat" and "Finding Dory." Then in 2022 and 2024, she scored an Emmy nomination for her guest starring role in HBO's "Hacks."

In September 2020, McElhenney became the co-owner of the Welsh football club with Ryan Reynolds, a story which was covered in the Emmy Award-winning FX sports documentary series "Welcome to Wrexham."

Providence Park was the last stop for the women on the 2024 Wrex Coast Tour, which saw the men's team return to the US and marked the first time the women's team traveled stateside, with two previous matches held in Los Angeles this past week.

Further, according to a social media post, although the match resulted in a tie, the Portland game marked record-breaking attendance for any match by the Wrexham AFC Women's team with 10,379 supporters.

The tour will officially conclude with a match between the Wrexham men's team and the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday night.
