Lake Charles man charged with rape after girl gives birth
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) -- A 39-year-old Lake Charles man was arrested after a girl, under the age of 13, gave birth early Saturday, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office announced.
Jose L. Montoya is facing two counts of first-degree rape, authorities said in a news release, and was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. His bond has not yet been set.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office said detectives were dispatched to a Lake Charles hospital around 3 a.m. Saturday concerning a girl, under the age of 13, who had given birth. Authorities said the girl told detectives that Montoya had sexual intercourse with her numerous times over the past two years.
"When detectives spoke with Montoya he confirmed the allegations. He also advised detectives the newborn is likely his child," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
The case remains under investigation. CPSO Det. Larry Cormier is the lead investigator on the case.
