Bosses at the broadcaster have rested the show for a summer break, with Gethin, Helen Skelton and Michelle Ackerley not returning to the airwaves until the end of August.

And in an update to fans during his well-deserved time off, Gethin revealed he’s been left in tears by the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Taking to social media, he explained how Team GB’s efforts during the diving tournament left him emotional.

Alongside a selfie, Gethin said: “Been watching for an hour.

“@TeamGB win first medal sync diving. On the last dive.

“Cried, bit my nails off and HR high all before 10am.”

He added with a laughing emoji: “Going to be a long 2 weeks.”

Meanwhile, the BBC has also taken The One Show off air for two weeks.

The flagship programme – usually hosted by Alex Jones and Roman Kemp – has been dropped from schedules in favour of the Olympic Games.

Announcing the hiatus until mid-August, Roman told viewers: “Thanks so much to Katy Perry.

“Enjoy the Olympics, see you on the 12th of August.”

Alex added: “Bye, have a nice summer,” as the credits rolled.
