Four ways to make the most of Britain’s wonderful parks and keep the family busy for free

KICK up your heels in your local rec to celebrate Love Parks Week, which runs until Sunday.

Organised by Keep Britain Tidy, it’s a chance to celebrate Britain’s gorgeous green spaces.

Parks are also packed with free activities year round to keep all the family busy, so grab a picnic and get outdoors . . .

MAKE A DATE: The week features a series of family-friendly events held around the country to encourage people to celebrate and use their local green spaces.

Check your council’s website and other local bulletins to find out more.

Search #LoveParks.

You can also use the hashtag to share your pictures on social media showing how you enjoy your park.

MUSCLE IN: Many parks have free-to-use fitness equipment like pull-up bars, static bikes and parallel bars.

More than 500 outdoor gyms have been installed around the UK in the past ten years.

DIG IN: You can also hang out with others at your local Green Gym.

Run by The Conservation Volunteers, these fun, free volunteering sessions are weekly groups that meet to plant trees, create wildflower meadows and grow food.

Find out more at tcv.org.uk/greengym.

FUN FOR ALL: No matter your age, there’s a no-cost park session to try.

There’s Parkrun, for starters — weekly 5km runs held in green spaces around the UK.

Or give tennis a go with free starter classes. See tennisforfree.com.

Londoners can sign up to ourparks.org.uk for free fitness classes in local parks run by qualified coaches.

Try free yoga sessions in parks around the country. Find out more at parkyoga.co.uk.

Families can get stuck in to Park Play, free two-hour group play sessions on Saturday mornings.

To find your nearest see park-play.com.
