Athletes with ties to NE Kansas colleges in 2024 Paris Olympics

TOPEKA (KSNT) - There are several athletes, and coaches, with ties to Northeast Kansas universities participating in the 2024 Paris Olympic games, including one connected to Emporia State, six to K-State and eight to KU.

The list below includes current and former athletes and coaches:

Emporia State

  • Carey McLeod (Jamaica) - Men's Long Jump

K-State

  • Eugene Omalla (Netherlands) - Men's 4x400 Relay
  • Murphy Sheaff (New Zealand) - Women's Soccer
  • Laura Galvan (Mexico) - Women's 5,000m
  • Leticia Romero (Spain) - Women's Basketball
  • Derrick Mein (USA) - Trap Shooting
  • Travis Geopfert (New head track coach) - Coaching individual track and field athletes

Kansas
