According to life hack expert Rosaline Webb, although opening your windows may seem like the best way to get some air moving around, this will actually do the very opposite.

The 28-year-old whizz revealed that contrary the common myth, opening all the windows in your home will only let in more hot air.

During toasty summer days, it’s best to keep your home cool by opening certain windows while keeping others shut, she noted, adding that this method keeps her and her parents cool every time temperatures rise.

Rosaline shared on TikTok: “First shut all the windows on the south side of the house, or the side of the house that gets the most sunlight.

”Next, draw curtains to stop the sunlight from pouring in.

”Lastly, open all the windows on the north side of the house, or the side of the house in the shade, to let all the cold air in.”

The life hack pro emphasised that the summer hack ”does truly work, regardless of what people say”.

Rosaline also added that her the of her house that faces north ”receives no direct sunlight whatsoever, because of the surrounding houses so on that side, the house is always cooler”.

Social media users were quick to jump into the comments section to thank Rosaline for sharing the clever trick, with others even revealing how they tackle the hot days.

One social media user wrote: “Best method in hot countries. Open all windows from late evening to early morning to let air cool the house.

”During the day close all windows and curtains.”

Another chimed in with their wisdom, saying: “If you have sash windows – open both top and bottom, hot air is light it will exit the room, cooler air from the bottom will be drawn in.”

Meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said to expect high levels of UV as temperatures soar this weekend.

“A little bit warmer extending further north across northeastern areas of eastern Scotland still staying largely dry and seeing temperatures into the low 20s as well but it will be all that bit breezier,” she noted.

Annie added there was a chance of “30°C, potentially 31°C is possible for the greater London area”.

The meteorologist added: “Quite widely will be in those high 20s across many central and southeastern areas of England as well.”

A map showed that Norwich and Birmingham would likely hit 28°C, Hull 27°C, Southampton 26°C and Manchester 25°C.

It comes just days after the Met Office issued flood warnings.
