Summer holidays are off to a chaotic start, with major travel delays and cancellations on roads, railways and at airports this weekend.

Coordinated arson attacks on the French rail network hours before the Olympics started on Friday led to one in four trains being cancelled across the Channel, with Eurostar passengers told to postpone their trips if possible.

Although trains out of the UK to France were fairly regular, those hoping to come home saw long delays. There were also woes for drivers, with routes to Devon and Cornwall in the South West clogged with traffic so heavy it led to two-hour delays.

Flights were cancelled at Heathrow yesterday, including several to the US. Arrivals into Gatwick from Orlando, Florida, were also cancelled on Sunday morning.

Airports have been struggling with the sheer weight of passengers, with long queues also seen in Manchester.

In London, the Piccadilly and Waterloo & City Tube lines are under part closures, as is the Overground. TfL is reporting that the DLR is also part suspended today.
