‘Be careful out there’ woman warns after calling out Vinted seller for flogging a 67p Shein ring for 20 times the price

A VINTED seller has been shamed for trying to flog a 67p Shein ring with a hefty mark-up that’s 20 times higher.

With the costs skyrocketing, millions across the world are looking for ways to make some extra money – and the online platform Vinted has become one of the most popular side hustles for many.

Several people said they’d purchased the exact same ring from the China-based retailer for less[/caption]

But one member of the site, which was launched in 2008 by two Lithuanians, has now taken to TikTok to warn others about cheeky listings.

Fashion lover Emma-Grace recently revealed that she had stumbled across a Vinted advertisement where the seller was flogging what they claimed to be a ring from Zara.

The stunning accessory was a golden ring with an on-trend pearl detailing, which had a vintage feel to it.

In the listing, the seller, who had a positive five-star rating by happy customers, had put the price for £13.

The gorgeous ring, which the person insisted had been purchased from the Spanish fashion giant, was also said to be ”adjustable”.

However, after doing some digging and research online, bride-to-be Emma was struggling to ”find any evidence that this ring is actually Zara”.

According to Emma, who will tie the knot in 2025, the ring instead appeared to have been ordered from the China-based retailer Shein – where you can bag it for a purse-friendly 67p, or 20 times less.

Urging fellow fashionistas to not fall for the cheeky trick, Emma wrote in the caption: ”Be careful out there.

”Does anyone know if this is actually Zara? Cause who’s buying it when you can get it for 67p?”

Since being posted on the platform, where Emma (@emsgracepeck) regularly shares lifestyle content, the video has racked up over 80k views.

Dozens of social media users raced to comments where they slammed the seller and confirmed the origins of the jewellery.

”I have that same ring from Shein,” claimed one style lover, who noted that it was ”not worth the £13 it’s posted for”.

”That ring is in my basket right now and it’s less than a pound,” a shopper chimed in.

”I have the same one from Shein. It’s okay but it has the adjustable band which can be uncomfortable cause it’s spikey – but it is pretty and looks good in pics,” someone else added.

Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted...

  • The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
  • Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

Meanwhile, others flocked to share similar fashion-shopping stories that almost left them scammed.

”This happened to me with Etsy before, bought something that was labelled as handmade but then I saw the exact same item on Temu for a fraction of the price, same product images as well.”

Emma who’s spotted this time and time again added: ”It’s becoming more and more common there now!

”Google image search is a life-saver.”
