Warren says it's not a risk for Harris to lean into prosecutorial background

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said it is not a risk for Vice President Harris to lean into her background as a prosecutor as she readies her campaign against former President Trump.

Harris and her allies have touted her experience as a prosecutor and later as California's attorney general in contrast with the former president, who was convicted of criminal charges in New York earlier this year and faces numerous legal battles. CNN's Jake Tapper asked Warren whether it would be a risk for her campaign for her to lean into her background.

"Not at all. You know Kamala is someone who started out as prosecutor. She put away gang members she worked very hard for the protection of the people of California. But look where she and the Biden-Harris administration has gone," Warren said on Sunday.

"What's happened in the time during that they have been in office is that we have surged resources to our first responders, surged resources to make sure that both the police have the resources they need, but also when a 911 call comes in, that sometimes it should be answered by a police officer but sometimes by a social worker or public health official who needs to deal with a different kind of crises," she added.

Republicans have been testing out different attack lines to use against Harris since she launched her campaign for the White House last week. President Biden announced last week he would be withdrawing from the race and endorsing his vice president for the ticket.

A pro-Trump super PAC is planning to spend millions of dollars on attack ads against Harris as she becomes the former president's likely opponent in November. Politico reported that one of the ads will focus on her time as a prosecutor in California.
