However, the match was not without drama as Ireland chased down their opponents’ score.

Andy McBrine made an all run five during the second innings after bizarre scenes in the field.

As the ball headed for four, a Zimbabwe fielder was able to stop it from crossing the boundary.

In doing so, though, they ran off the pitch and disappeared from view.

Ireland were able to rack up five runs as Zimbabwe scrambled to get the ball back to the stumps.

Reacting to the incident on social media, one fan wrote: “This all run five after the fielder runs off over the boundary and apparently disappears will be my highlight of the year.”

Another added: “Should have let it go for four.”

A third fan also commented: “Village stuff at test level, beautiful.”

Meanwhile, one more said: “Don’t see those every day.”

McBrine went on to make an unbeaten 55 during the second innings as Ireland successfully chased down Zimbabwe’s score.

He was also named player of the match after taking seven wickets with the ball.

Ireland’s victory is only their second ever from nine Tests, with both coming in 2024.

The win over Zimbabwe follows a six-wicket triumph over Afghanistan back in March.
