‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Untucked’ season 6 episode 12 recap: ‘Grand Finale Variety Extravaganza: Part 2’
“RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” concluded its 9th season on Friday, July 26 with the 12th episode featuring returning queens from seasons past. In the sister series “Untucked,” now in its 6th “All Stars” season, the queens throw back a cocktail and dish the dirt backstage on the latest challenge. This week RuPaul Charles hosted a “Variety Extravaganza” talent show worth three Beautiful Benefactress Badges in order to help determined which queen would be the next star to join the Drag Race Hall of Fame. But before getting to that announcement, the queens derobed in the lounge one last time. Nina West expressed her gratitude for all of the queens making it such a special season and Shannel told them they’ll always be like family because of how welcome she felt coming back 15 years after she first appeared on season 1. Angeria Paris VanMichales reiterated the advice they were given by Kylie Sonique Love that they all “just did you” on stage and that’s why the judges’ decision could go in any direction.
In their best effort to determine who the top three could be, Nina broke down the numbers that the three of them, including Gottmik and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, with only two badges would have to win talent in order to at least be in the running as a finalist. For the Double Diamond voting, Shannel said her vote was about the season and the room agreed that they all felt they placed a vote on an “emotional” basis and not “strategic.”
Special guest judge Connie Britton popped in to express to them how inspired she is by all of them and to thank them for being authentically themselves. She said that “no matter what happens” they’re each already a star. She also wondered if competing for charity allowed them to “dig deeper” and they agreed, adding that it made it “a season about love.” Later, after Connie’s exit, the queens got into a look appropriate for the possible final lip sync in the hopes that they’d be competing for the crown. In the end, Nina was voted to receive the Double Diamond, but Vanjie and Angeria won the talent competition and joined Roxxxy as the final three. Then, based on their lip syncs and their performances throughout the season, Ru declared Angeria the newest inductee to the Drag Race Hall of Fame.
