The 2025 Mazda CX-70 Premium Plus AWD Plug-In Hybrid SUV

What is a CX-70? The CX-70 is a midsize SUV built in the Hofu, Japan assembly plant and sold worldwide by Mazda. This all new 2025 model CX-70, and its year old CX-90 sibling, are both midsize SUVs that follow a similar template as competitors, such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee L. The CX-70 is a 2 row offering that seats five passengers, while the CX-90 has 3 rows and can seat up to eight people. The CX-70 is a 2025 model and is available for purchase at your Mazda dealer right now.

To preview this new 2025 model, Mazda sent me a CX-70 Premium Plus AWD Plug-In Hybrid SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this model is $57,450. The only option on the test SUV is the metallic paint for $450. The manufactures suggested retail price (MSRP), including the $1,375 delivery fee, is: $59,275.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the out the door and in your garage total purchase price came to: $66,684. At near $67 Grand this midsize SUV is not cheap, but you do get a midsize SUV with a performance minded engine, a plug-in hybrid drive train, and a luxury level SUV for less than the competition.

To start with, this new CX-70 model has a 3.3 liter inline 6 cylinder Turbocharged gas engine that makes 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and delivers acceleration and performance you can feel in the seat of your pants. Power is then sent into an 8 speed Skyactive automatic transmission with hill launce assist, routed into an all wheel drive (AWD) traction control system, coupled with an electric motor and a plug-in battery pack that can drive the SUV for 26 miles on a full charge. After that, the gas engine starts up and your total driving range from electric and gas top out at 490 miles overall. That will get you from San Francisco to Disneyland on a full battery charge and a full tank of gas.

The exterior features start with a nice set of 21″ machine cut alloy wheels with P275/45 R21 all season tires, a hands free power rear lift gate, a honeycomb front grill mesh in piano black and rain sensing windshield wipers. The interior features an 8 way power drivers seat with lumbar support and memory, heated front seats, a leather wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a 12.3″ color center stack display with a touch screen, a 12.3″ digital LCD instrument cluster, keyless entry, push button start, 2nd row window sunshades, and a 1500 watt power outlet.

Tech, tunes, and info are covered by Mazda active display with Mazda online navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, a wireless cell phone charging pad, Bluetooth, USB inputs, Alexa, a frame less auto dimming rear view mirror with HomeLink, Mazda connected services, and a Bose AM/FM/HD premium audio system with 12 speakers. Everything you need to stay in touch with your friends.

This model has the Premium Plus package that includes all the upscale options you really want on a SUV and it starts with: Nappa leather trimmed seats, an 8 way power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, heated 2nd row seats, a heated leather wrapped steering wheel, a 150 volt power outlet, a windshield wiper de-icer system, a 360 degree view monitor with a see-through view, front cross traffic alert with automatic braking, smart braking support in reverse, and a 360 surround view security system.

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 enters the midsize SUV class with a lot of cargo space, a sporty looking design, and Mazda’s signature driving dynamics. The pricing starts with the CX-70 3.3 Turbo at $40,445. The CX-70 3.3 Turbo S is $52,450 and the CX-70 PHEV edition starts at $54,400. This top of the line CX-70 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with the premium plus package has a base window sticker price of $57,450. Mazda has developed a price point scale that starts at $40,000 and steps up to $60,000.  There is a 2025 crossover midsize CX-70 SUV model priced in everybody’s new car budget.
