The Royals can end the homestand on a high note by taking the series against the Cubs this afternoon. They will start All-Star Cole Ragans (7-6, 3.23 ERA), who won his last start but had a velocity drop that bears watching.

The Cubs start Javier Assad (4-3, 3.15 ERA), who missed a month with a forearm injury, and has been on a strict pitch count since then, failing to go as many as four innings in either of his two starts since returning.
