Formula 1 Going On Hiatus After Belgian Grand Prix 2024 - Find Out Why & When It Returns!

F1 is taking a break for a while after Sunday’s (July 28) 2024 Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Spa, Belgium.

Formula 1 drivers and their teams will be going on a holiday break this summer for several weeks, which if you’re newer to the racing sport, this is actually something that happens every year.

For F1, the season lasts all year long, and this year there are 24 race weekends, with several back-to-back races throughout the year.

While there are nearly two week-long breaks throughout the season, the biggest break comes in the summer about halfway through the season.

So, why are they taking a long break and when does the season resume?

Keep reading to find out more…

This year’s break officially begins on Monday, July 29th and will last until August 22nd when the preview day for the next race, heading into the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix race weekend.

The break is written into the regulations and is mandatory for each team, and if they do not adhere to the rules of the break, they could receive penalties.

This means there will be no cars on track, teams are not allowed to do testing and team factories have to shut down with work limited to basic functions.

“All competitors must observe a shutdown period of fourteen (14) consecutive days during the months of July and / or August,” Article 21.8 of the FIA Formula 1 regulations reads.

Teams are not allowed to work on car design, development or parts production, including planning or meetings. Essential work such as service and maintenance is allowed, but machining parts and wind tunnels are not during the two week period.

The mandatory 14-day shut down period does not have to happen at the same time for each time, as they can decide when their period takes place within the month-long break.

The summer break allows for teams and drivers to get some much needed rest and time away from work, where they can get in some family time and take a vacation!

When does the 2024 Formula 1 season resume? As previously stated, teams will be able to start working again the week before the next race weekend, which officially begins on August 23rd.
