Red Sox Wrap: Boston Drops Series To Yankees After Early Deficit

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
For the second straight night, the Red Sox came to bat in the first inning looking at a three-run deficit.

The Yankees scored three times off Tanner Houck in the opening frame. The top of the lineup with Juan Soto and Aaron Judge consistently reached base on a night where Alex Verdugo played catalyst with a pair of doubles.

Boston’s lineup largely failed to put pressure on Carlos Rodon with the exception of the fourth inning. Rob Refsnyder and Connor Wong slugged back-to-back home runs before Rafael Devers slapped a triple to left field. The Red Sox hammered the ball after three scoreless innings.

Rodon did indeed settle down over his final two frames, limited the damage after the fourth inning and weaved his way through six solid innings at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox could not capitalize on late chances while Boston’s bullpen struggles continued when the Yankees added insurance.

New York won its first series against Boston in 2024 while the Red Sox fell to 2-7 since the All-Star break with three consecutive series losses.

STARS OF THE GAME
— Wong tallied his 10th homer of the season.

— Refsnyder smashed his fifth long ball of 2024.

— Verdugo doubled twice and scored two runs for the Yankees.
