Lafayette bar faces criticism from nearby residents due to parking overflow

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Residents who live near new Lafayette bar, Yard Goat, are concerned about the limited parking at the restaurant, saying bar patrons are parking in their yards instead.

One Lafayette woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said she lives on Oak street, a street nearby the bar. For months, she's dealt with strangers parking on the curb near her home and yard, she said.

"One Saturday night they had some people that were out of their car yelling and screaming at each other," the woman said. "I know they were having a good time, but it's a disturbance to my dogs, to me, [and] my family. And that street has always been a very quiet street."

She said the bar should be more responsible in ensuring customers are able to park next to the restaurant.

"Yard Goat should be responsible to get their patrons to their restaurant," the woman said.

"Sometimes we have fast drivers that come down the street, big old trucks that come down the street, they could take out a mirror on the car and never say anything. I don't want that kind of stuff," she continued.

KLFY News 10 spoke with a representative of the establishment who sent a statement saying, "We are being diligent on getting this done and we want to be good neighbors to the people around us. We are definitely taking precautions to help our neighbors".

A Yard Goat spokesperson said they are looking to open a new parking lot that includes 150 new parking spaces. The new parking is expected to be open sometime over the next couple of weeks, weather permitting.
