Not Rohit Sharma or Rishabh Pant; Ravi Shastri Picks Virat Kohli as ‘Impact Player of Generation’

Shastri was asked to make his choice and he picked Virat Kohli as the 'impact player of the generation'.

Mumbai: Over the past decade, India have been a force to reckon with in cricket. The reason for that is the coming of age of a number of Indian players. Former India coach Ravi Shastri has played a massive role in this. Shastri was the coach of the Indian side during this period. He has also been instrumental in getting the best out of players and hence it was apt that he picks his ‘impact player of the generation’ according to him. During an interaction on Fox Sports, Shastri was asked to make his choice and he picked Virat Kohli as the ‘impact player of the generation’.

Kohli has been on a break after the triumphant run at the T20 World Cup 2024. He is set to join the side in Sri Lanka for the ODI leg. Kohli, who was not at his best during the T20 WC, would like to get among the runs with the bat. Spotlight would be on him as he is making a comeback to the side.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav equalled a T20I feat which earlier belonged to former India captain and batter Virat Kohli in T20I cricket. Suryakumar Yadav and Kohli are the only two cricketers in world cricket with 16 ‘Player of the match (POTM)’ awards in T20I cricket.

While ‘SKY’ achieved this feat in only 69 matches while winning the award in the first T20I on Saturday, Kohli achieved this feat in 125 matches – including the T20 World Cup 2024 final which incidentally was also his final game in this format.
