A huge fight broke out in the middle of a hiking path at a popular beauty spot in the Peak District.

Emotions ran high at the Dovedale Stepping Stones in the Derbyshire park on Saturday after walkers got into an argument in front of children.

The fight allegedly kicked off after one man wanted to cross the Stepping Stones with a pushchair, MailOnline reports.

Video shows dozens of walkers of all ages congregating on the riverbank near the Victorian stepping stones when the fight suddenly broke out near the water, with at least one hiker seen brandishing a large stick.

A 25-year-old man, who did not give his name, told the outlet: ‘

We were at the Stepping Stones and there was a bloke trying to cross it.

‘There was one guy with a pushchair wanting to come across and all of a sudden it all kicked off.

‘They were shouting at each other for a while before they started fighting and then they began picking up sticks.

‘There were families there and children watching on.’

Derbyshire Police was contacted for a comment.

The dog-friendly Ilam Park to Stepping Stones trail through the stunning Peak District is popular among walkers of different abilities.

Along with the steps build at the end of the 19th century, the area in Thorpe Cloud boasts 1,000-year-old Saxon crosses and wildlife.

National Trust has warned that the most popular spots can get ‘extremely busy’ on weekends and holidays, with car parks filling up by 9am already.
