Doctor urges using the ‘cornerstone of any anti-aging regimen’ – and the 4 next-best products for plump, line-free skin

AN anti-aging skincare routine needs five key products to be effective, according to a medical aesthetician.

Charette is a medical aesthetician and cosmetic practitioner, with branches of Charette Cosmetics in Atlanta, Dallas, and Miami.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, he shared advice for defying the visible signs of aging.

Charette said sunscreen is “undoubtedly the cornerstone of any anti-aging regimen.”

However, it isn’t the only ingredient that should be routinely used to maintain a youthful appearance. 

“Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that hydrates the skin deeply, plumping it from within,” he said.

“It’s suitable for all ages, even teenagers, as it helps maintain skin health.”

He said retinol is a vitamin A derivative that people in their late 20s or early 30s should use when the first signs of aging appear.

He said the ingredient stimulates collagen production for fewer fine lines and improved skin texture. 

“A potent antioxidant, vitamin C brightens the complexion, protects against environmental damage, and supports collagen synthesis,” he said.

“It can be used at any age but is particularly beneficial for those concerned with hyperpigmentation or dull skin.

“Niacinamide is a versatile ingredient that regulates sebum production, improves skin tone, and strengthens the skin barrier. Suitable for all ages and skin types.”

Charette said skincare products should be applied from “thinnest to thickest consistency” for best absorption. 

However, it’s essential to follow the manufacturer’s specific instructions.

“A typical routine would include cleanser, toner, essence, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen, in the morning,” he added.

Charette said a holistic approach to anti-aging is crucial for achieving the best results. 

“Prioritizing factors like stress management, quality sleep, and a balanced diet can significantly impact skin health,” he said.

“Additionally, consistent skincare, including sun protection, hydration, and antioxidant-rich products, is essential. 

“Remember, everyone’s skin is unique, so it’s important to find a routine that works best for you, meet with an expert to help you find out what works.”

He said getting beauty sleep sounds “cliché,” but holds truth, therefore adults should aim for seven to nine hours each night. 

He revealed that sleep deprivation can accelerate skin aging, while causing skin to look dull, dehydrated and have dark under-eye circles. 

“To enhance sleep quality, consider investing in high-quality bedding made from hypoallergenic materials,” he said.

“Sleeping on your back is often recommended to prevent facial wrinkles. 

“Additionally, creating a calming sleep environment, free from electronic distractions, can significantly improve sleep quality and overall skin health.”

Charette said professional aesthetic treatments can be effective alongside home beauty habits.
