Defensive dilemma: Injury to Leny Yoro could accelerate Man Utd's transfer plans for £55m star - view
Manchester United may need to hasten their pursuit of another centre-back after the injury to their new summer signing.
Leny Yoro joined Man United from LOSC Lille for £52 million this summer.
He was named in the starting XI in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday. His evening was cut short due to an injury and he was substituted in the 35th minute.
The Times reported that the injury appeared more severe than Rasmus Hojlund’s. He was taken off in the 16th minute with an apparent muscle injury.
If Yoro is forced to spend a spell on the sidelines, United must speed up their pursuit of Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt.
The Red Devils are eyeing a move for the defender who is currently out of favour at Bayern.
Erik ten Hag confirmed United’s interest in signing De Ligt last week. The £55 million-rated centre-back will bolster United’s backline which needs reinforcement.
The club are eager to strengthen their squad but must generate funds through sales first.
Victor Lindelof is a likely option who could be offloaded in the coming days.
The Sweden international is in the final 12 months of his contract. United have a final opportunity to earn some money by selling him.
Ideally, the club would have waited until the end of the transfer market to get the deal done with Bayern.
However, the injury to Yoro could change their plans and act as a catalyst for United to accelerate their pursuit of De Ligt.
