‘Do you not like your unborn child? Grow up’ people cry as mum reveals baby’s name that even SHE knows is inappropriate
MOST parents have affectionate nicknames for their children, but one couple took theirs a step further.
A mum revealed the unusual name she gave to her daughter that people say will definitely result in bullying.
A couple faced backlash online after revealing the unique name they were considering for their baby girl (stock image)[/caption] They acknowledged that the name would lead to bullying and said they would only use it at home (stock image)[/caption]In a post on Mumsnet, one woman shared the unique name she and husband decided on for their “little girl.”
She shared her hesitation over the name, explaining that she didn’t know if it would be suitable as her daughter got older.
“We love the name Lovey for a little girl,” the original poster wrote.
“But obviously for more professional circumstances and later life, it wouldn’t be appropriate.”
She shared her hopes that Lovey could be used as a nickname for a more traditional name.
“Lovey will only be what we call her at home,” she explained.
Other Mumsnet users shared their honest thoughts on the potential name.
One unimpressed reader told the couple to “grow up” and consider their child’s feelings.
“Do you not like your unborn child?” they asked.
“Do you have any idea how much a child called Lovey will get teased at school?”
“You could call her anything at all and just use Lovey the same way you’d use Honey or Sweetheart,” pointed out another person.
“In fact, I call the children I teach Lovey now that I think of it, especially if I’m supervising in a room of younger children and I don’t know all their names.”
“Lovey? F**king hell, this is a person not a pet bird,” commented a third social media user.
“That is like naming your child Darling, Sweetie, Baby, Cupcake or Honey!” wrote another person.
“Actually, I have heard of people using Honey, better for a Golden Retriever or a Labrador than a person, I feel.”

“Is McLovin just a boys name?????” joked one person, referring to the fictional name from Superbad.
“Jane. Or anything, really. Millions of children out there must be regularly referred to as Love/Lovey/Lovely/My Lovely whilst having completely unrelated first names,” said one reader.
“Just call her Lovey at home as a nickname. It doesn’t need to be a shorter version of her [on] file name,” pointed out another person.
“Just give her a proper name. Then you can use lovey as a family nickname,” agreed one Mumsnet user.
“Why can’t you just call her Lovey as a nickname and give her a nice normal name that has no connections to it?” asked another reader.
