All the shows and films axed from Netflix this month – from fan-favourite TV series to Emma Stone movie

NETFLIX is getting rid of a bunch of films and TV shows this month in a big shake-up, including some classic comedies.

With August on the horizon, viewers should prepare to bid farewell to some major 2000s comedy films, including The Devil Wears Prada, The Guilt Trip, and Easy A.

Netflix viewers should also be prepared to lose Brad Pitt’s 2016 World War II thriller Allied and 2021 sport drama King Richard which stars Will Smith and is based on the early lives of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams.

Leaving 1st August 2024

90 ML (2019) – The Indian Tamil-language adult comedy film follows a woman frustrated with her marital life finds solace in the friendships she cultivates with four other women as they pursue their dreams.

Autumn’s Concerto (2009) – The Taiwanese drama series starring Ady An, Ann Hsu, and Vanness Wu of F4.

After developing amnesia and losing all memories of his past, a wealthy lawyer goes to a small, rural village where a woman he once loved now lives with her son.

Darwin’s Game (1 Season) – A high school student unwittingly joins an online game where players fight for their actual lives using superhuman powers known as sigils.

Easy A (2010) – Starring Emma Stone, Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, Dan Byrd, Olive lies to her best friend about losing her virginity to one of the college boys.

A girl overhears their conversation. Soon, her story spreads across the entire school like wildfire – can Olive keep up the lie or will the truth be exposed?

Hasta los dientes (2018) – An exploration of the controversy surrounding the 2010 murders of two students who were framed as criminals and murdered by the Mexican military.

Just Friends (2005) – Starring Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, Anna Faris, Chris Klein. Chris, a man who is overweight, goes through a transformation and becomes successful in life.

Soon, he comes across his high school crush and former best friend, Jamie, who rejected him years ago.

Miss Bala (2019) – Gloria gets abducted by a group of criminals when she visits Mexico to meet her friend Suzu.

Later, she uses her wit to survive in the cruel world of crime.

Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea (1 Season) – Due to the closure of their middle school, four students from the sea, Manaka Mukaido, Hikari Sakishima, Chisaki Hiradaira, and Kaname Isaki must attend middle school on the land, despite the growing tension between the land and sea people.

Office Girls (1 Season) – Qin Zi Qi has to survive a year on his own as an entry-level employee in order to prove to his father he would make a good manager.

Paprika (2006) – Dr. Atsuko Chiba works as a scientist by day and, under the code name “Paprika,” is a dream detective at night.

Atsuko and her colleagues are working on a device called the DC Mini, which is intended to help psychiatric patients, but in the wrong hands it could destroy people’s minds.

When a prototype is stolen, Atsuko/Paprika springs into action to recover it before damage is done.

The Peacemaker (1997) – Thomas Devoe, a US Army colonel, and Dr Julia Kelly, a security expert, frantically search for a set of Russian nuclear weapons believed to be stolen by Chechen terrorists.

The Prince Who Turns Into a Frog (1 Season) – A Taiwanese drama starring Ming Dao, Joe Chen, Sam Wang and Joyce Chao. 

Making up a story about a frog ghost living in Chuen Chiva, Lookpat spreads the story everywhere she goes, until it eventually becomes a part of local legend

Toradora! (1 Season) – Fierce in appearance but gentle at heart, Ryuji forms an unlikely friendship with Taiga, a tiny girl with a sharp tongue and a tough attitude.

Together they try to help each confess their love to their crushes.

Uyare (2019) – Pallavi aspires to be a pilot but her career is jeopardised when she falls prey to an acid attack by Govind, her obsessive former boyfriend.

You’re My Destiny (1 Season) – Ji Cun Xi and Chen Xin Yi both plan to take their respective relationships to the next level on a romantic night cruise.

Through a strange twist of fate, Ji and Chen spend an intimate night together and a new love story is conceived.

Groundhog Day (1993) – Phil, a self-centred weatherman, goes to the town of Punxsutawney for an assignment.

He is later shocked when he wakes up the next morning and realises that he is reliving the same day over and over.

But a quick stop at his mother’s house has him inviting her to tag along for the road trip.

Forgiven (2020) – The perpetrator of a hostage situation at a church plans his escape while a woman tries her best to save his life.

King Richard (2021) – Coming from an unprivileged background, Venus Williams and Serena Williams rise to the top and dominate the world of women’s tennis with the help of their ever-supporting father, Richard Williams.

She starts working as an assistant to one of the city’s biggest magazine editors, the cynical Miranda Priestly.

The film stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt.

Brightburn (2019) – Tori and Kyle find a baby boy in a spaceship and adopt him as their own child, Brandon.

However, after turning 12, Brandon learns that he has superpowers and begins to use them for sinister purposes.

The Outfit (2022) – Upon getting entangled in the aftermath of a gang war, an English cutter decides to take matters into his own hands and pave the way to his freedom from the restraints of a mobster family.

Allied (2016) – World War II operatives, Max and Marianne, fall in love and get married.

However, he receives a call informing him that his wife is working for the enemy, making their marriage rocky.

The film stars Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard.
