Disney+ fans warned an extra fee is coming soon following Netflix-style password sharing ban

DISNEY+ appears to be preparing an extra fee for subscribers in a similar move to Netflix as the steaming giant cracks down on password sharing.

The popular service – home to classic Disney movies, Marvel and hit TV shows like Only Murders In The Building – started a sharing ban almost a year ago.

It means account holders can no longer give their login details to friends and family who live outside their household.

But the House of Mouse is preparing to allow sharing again – if you pay an extra fee.

Rival Netflix already does this, allowing one extra account from a different household at £4.99 / $7.99 per month.

A new subscriber agreement has been spotted on the Disney+ website giving some clues about the company’s plans.

Firstly, Disney is calling the feature Extra Members – but it doesn’t detail exactly how much it will cost just yet.

Much like Netflix, the Extra Member doesn’t need to live in your house – they get their own profile and login.

But the Extra Member will have to live in the same country as the primary account holder.

The additional account may not have the same features as the main account either, though Disney hasn’t revealed what might be missing.

“The Extra Member will receive a subset of functionality/features available to the Subscriber under their Service Plan,” the website says.

Paying for the Extra Member will have to be done through the main account too.

It’s not clear when Disney intends to officially introduce the new scheme but we expect the option to appear in the coming weeks and months.

BUNDLE SHAKE-UP

The move comes as Disney launched a new bundle with rival Max in the US to help viewers keep costs down, saving $9 a month.

It allows people to snap up Disney+, Hulu and Max for just $16.99.

If you were buying the services separately, you’d be paying at least $25.97.

Normally Disney+ Basic would cost $7.99, plus Hulu with ads for $7.99, and HBO‘s Max with Ads for $9.99.

That’s just shy of $26, so you’re saving around $9 every month with the bundle.

There are some catches though – you’ll be getting the cheapest subscription options, so you’ll have to sit through ads.

And the HBO Max plan doesn’t get you 4K streaming and will instead cap out at HD quality.
