Robu, 26, from London, is a civil servant, who spends her free time sharing beauty and wellness videos on YouTube.

She went viral on the platform when she shared the secret to her long locks.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she revealed that several habits could hinder hair growth.

SEND BAGS PACKING

Robu said having an excessive focus on topical treatments isn’t beneficial.

“Ignoring length retention is probably the biggest mistake I see,” she said.

“Hair growth is often thought of as growth from the scalp, so we end up buying lots of oils, hair growth supplements, massagers, and expensive shampoos.

“But a huge part of growing long hair is keeping the lengths from breaking.”

She said strands become weaker from the accumulation of bad daily mistakes, rather than a one-time bad bleach.

“For example, many of us hold our purse or backpack handles on our hair,” she said.

“Or even lay on it when sitting on the chair or couch.

“These habits can create daily friction on our hair and ultimately break the hair, so no matter how fast or healthy the hair grows from the roots, length can be compromised.”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Robu revealed that she doesn’t rely on dietary supplements that are marketed for hair growth.

She confessed that her reason may be unfounded but it hasn’t harmed her ability to grow long locks.

“I’ve never tried dietary supplements for hair growth,” she said.

“I’ve heard they promote hair growth all over the body as the effects cannot be localized to the scalp.

“Whether that still stands true or not, I believe good nutrition and good habits should be prioritized over taking supplements unless you have medical conditions that affect hair growth.”

According to Very Well Health, oral hair growth supplements have a “minimal effect” on body hair growth.

This is because they don’t contain the hormones needed to stimulate body and facial hair growth.

Robu previously told The U.S. Sun that it took one and a half years to grow her locks back after cutting off all visible damage from coloring.

She stopped dyeing her hair and replaced old hairbrushes that had ball-tipped bristles with a Tangle Teezer.

She also started to use a protein-rich gel and began to double cleanse to avoid product build-up.

Robu said it’s “counterintuitive” to get hair trimmed frequently when trying to retain length.

She added that staying away from heat styling tools is essential for maintaining hair health.
