'Worst week ever': Anti-Trump conservative mocks sudden change in fortunes

Former President Donald Trump was riding high after the Republican National Convention earlier this month, but anti-MAGA conservative A.B. Stoddard believes he may have spiked the football too early.

Writing for The Bulwark, Stoddard mocks Trump for having his "worst week ever," as newly released polls show that Vice President Kamala Harris is performing significantly better than President Joe Biden did before he decided to end his 2024 bid for the White House last week.

"Within days, the vice president had captivated the nation, united her party, upended the campaign, raised record sums, tied up the race in polling, and seen a bounce in her favorability ratings," Stoddard writes. "In the same stretch of time Trump had backed out of a debate, watched J.D. Vance become a meme, fielded concerns about what a failure it was to pick Vance, and seen his own approval rating erode under Harris’ attacks."

She adds that even X CEO Elon Musk seemingly reneged on sending Trump $45 million per month at the same time that Harris' campaign raised more than $200 million in just its first week.

What's more, writes Stoddard, Harris' candidacy quickly blew up the mythology that Trump's campaign had created claiming that he had been changed for the better by the failed assassination attempt that took place at a Pennsylvania campaign rally earlier this month.

"Trump lost altitude so quickly he forgot he was supposed to have been transformed by the attempt on his life," Stoddard cracked. "Suddenly he can no longer fake serenity and humility, and that crap about unity his supporters attested to after the attempted assassination.

"A noticeably grouchy Trump admitted Saturday that was all BS... Enraged by Harris’ surge, Trump is flailing about for any attack to use on her. He has accused her of “committing crimes,” said she doesn’t like Jewish people (despite being married to one), and called her 'sick,' 'a bum,' and 'evil.'"
