The Air Jordan 4’s ‘Thunder’ Series Will Add a New Black and White Colorway in August

"White Thunder" brings a versatile look to the iconic sneaker.

The Air Jordan 4 will soon get a new variation of its “Thunder” arrangement.

The Air Jordan 4 “White Thunder” will release in August by bringing a new black and white colorway to the iconic sneaker. Black nubuck forms the shoe’s upper, with contrasting white appearing through the mesh windows, eyelet wings and Jumpman branding on the tongue and heel. A white midsole then sits atop a black outsole to complete the look comparable to Nike’s ubiquitous “Panda” Dunks.

The Air Jordan 4 “Thunder” made its debut in 2006 with a white and yellow look that’s since rereleased on two occasions. Appearing with the same black base, yellow was swapped for red for the “Red Thunder” edition in 2022.

Originally released in 1989, the Air Jordan 4 is the second of Michael Jordan’s sneakers to be designed by Tinker Hatfileld. Like its direct predecessor in the Air Jordan 3, it features a visible Air unit, and synthetic Durabuck brought a new material to the line. The shoe’s first run of colorways featured a Nike Air logo on the mustache rather than the Jumpman, but new colorways tend to opt for the latter. In addition to starring as Mars Blackmon in the Air Jordan 4’s campaign, Spike Lee also featured the sneaker in his film “Do the Right Thing.”

2024 has been a big year for the Air Jordan 4, with the return of two OG colorways in “Bred Reimagined” and “Military Blue.” Jordan Brand also introduced the redesigned Air Jordan 4 RM, short for “Restomod,” through a collaboration with Nigel Sylvester earlier this month.

The Air Jordan 4 “White Thunder” will release August 24 through the Snkrs app and select third-party retailers. Full family sizing will be available, with men’s pairs priced at $215.
