Jennifer Aniston & Reese Witherspoon Reportedly Had 'Power Struggles' on 'The Morning Show'
Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon have successfully produced and starred in three seasons of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show with a fourth season ahead in 2025. It’s brought them critical praise, Emmy nominations, and a close friendship — but their bond reportedly wasn’t so warm at first.
In the early days of The Morning Show, there was reported “friction on the set” and “a lot of eye-rolling going on” due to “some tensions,” according to a Life & Style source. Since they are both listed as executive producers, “there were some power struggles over who was going to have the ultimate say in the show decisions.” The insider shared that “Reese decided to allow Jen to call the shots” because she has so much on her plate with her media empire at Hello Sunshine.
Ever since the women worked out the dynamics of their working relationship, their friendship has blossomed! “Since then, she’s gotten to really enjoy Jen’s company. They have dinners together, go on hikes and to the spa, and they’ve even started giving each other dating advice,” the insider added. Aniston raved about her pal to Harper’s Bazaar in 2023 joking about Witherspoon’s hectic schedule. “I just look at her and I think, You absolutely exhaust me, just looking at your plate,” Aniston said. “She is one of the most highly productive human beings I’ve ever encountered. It’s incredible.”
Witherspoon’s admiration for Aniston goes back decades when she guest-starred on Friends as the younger sister of Rachel Green. “I marveled at her ability to perform in front of a live audience like that with no nerves,” she told the media outlet in 2019. “They would change all the lines, and she was just so effortlessly affable, bubbly, and sunny. We’ve been friends ever since.”
The women are both up for an Emmy for The Morning Show in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category this September, but there’s no rivalry here. No matter who wins, they will support each other because their friendship comes first over everything else.
