Arizona GOP mayor backs Kamala Harris and praises Dems for creating 'thousands of jobs'
Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday scored an endorsement from a Republican mayor in a key swing state.
Writing in the Arizona Republic, Mesa Mayor John Giles said that he's backing Harris not only because he opposes the election-denying former President Donald Trump, but also because he believes that the Biden-Harris administration has done a good job of investing in Arizona's economy.
"Under the Biden-Harris administration, Mesa has seen historic federal funding for the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, along with investments to make sure our streets and public transit systems benefit from modern technology," he writes. "With the CHIPS Act, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden are delivering thousands of new jobs to Arizonans and helping us grow critical industries."
When it comes to Trump, Giles is much less complimentary, and he cites Trump's efforts to illegally remain in power after losing the 2020 election to President Joe Biden as the main reason.

However, he also cites Trump's stances on NATO and his myriad legal problems as reason to deny him a second term in office.
Trump poses a serious threat to our nation," he argues. "We can’t have a felon representing us on the national stage, let alone one who would threaten to abandon NATO and ruin our standing abroad. We are in a moment that only happens once every few generations, when we have to defend democracy, and stand up for the right to vote and our civil rights.
"It is essential that we proceed in a manner that strengthens, rather than diminishes, public confidence in our democratic institutions. What kind of country do we want to live in?"
