'Classless as a pig': Trump spokesman slammed for 'cringe' jab at Harris coconut meme

A vulgar jab at Vice President Kamala Harris spurred a stern slap back against one of Donald Trump's most outspoken spokesmen Monday.

The uproar began when Trump campaign representative Steven Cheung shared New York Magazine's "Welcome to Kamalot" cover that features a smiling Harris sitting atop a coconut.

"Kamala Harris is sitting on a giant nut," wrote Cheung. "Feels like New York Magazine is in on the joke."

The New York Magazine cover promises an article that dissects "the thrill of taking a risk on Kamala Harris" and references the story the vice president told in a May 2023 speech about advancing opportunities for Hispanic Americans.

"You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?" Harris said, quoting her mother. "You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you."

The quirky quotation became a viral sensation bringing youthful momentum to Harris' campaign against her opponent, who is now the oldest candidate to run for president.

Republican opponents have frequently attempted to shame Harris for her past relationship with former San Francisco mayor and California State Assembly Member Willie Brown, who appointed the then-prosecutor to two governmental boards.

On Monday, Cheung found a way to merge the two contrasting trends. He was quickly met with angry insults.

"Have you seen that giant nut that sits on top of your shoulders?" replied X user Ben Anderson. "Your neck has more rolls than a thanksgiving dinner."

"You’re about as classless as a pig in s---," wrote Jay Ashman.

"I think you need someone to manage your embarrassing social media," wrote X user Vincentor. "Every post is more cringe than the last."
