New Jersey food bank needs a new refrigerated box truck

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) -- New Jersey's largest food bank, which feeds hundreds of thousands of people each year, needs another refrigerated box truck to keep up with the demand.

There are close to 1 million people who are food insecure in New Jersey. The Community FoodBank of New Jersey's headquarters is the size of five football fields.

David Goldstein, the vice president of operations, said they need a smaller truck to navigate neighborhoods most in need. He said a 16-foot box truck would be perfect to squeeze through tight streets.

Daryl Walker runs the kitchen there, and his team prepares thousands of meals each day that go on the trucks that help feed families all across New Jersey. Keeping the food fresh is critical.

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey served 90 million meals last year and services 15 out of the 21 counties in New Jersey.

With school out during the summer, more than 260,000 children need food programs.
