Kerala Cricket Revolution: Devika and Rumeli Appointed as Coaches

The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) is considering hiring Devika Palshikar and Rumeli Dhar, two former Indian cricket players, to fill coaching positions in the state. Following the decision by longtime coach Suman Sharma to take command of the Odisha women’s team in May of this year and not renew her contract, the head coach job for the Kerala women’s team was left empty.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) interviewed Devika and Rumeli in Thiruvananthapuram last week, and although KCA had initially requested applications to fill the position of women’s head coach, they are now considering the option of accepting both.

More than twenty people applied to KCA for the coaching position, two of them were from outside.

The CAC further reduced the list to two applicants after reducing it to seven.

“We are thinking of utilizing the experience of both. While one can handle the senior women’s team’s coaching responsibilities, the other can look after junior women’s cricket and the High-Performance Centre. A final decision will be taken this week,” said one of the members of CAC.

After playing 13 years of international cricket, including 78 ODIs, 4 Tests, and 18 20Is, Bengali seam bowling all-rounder Rumeli declared her retirement from the game two years ago.

Devika played one Test and fifteen ODIs for Maharashtra. She does, however, have greater coaching expertise. She has coached the women’s teams from Bangladesh and India as an assistant coach, and last year she took on the job of consultant for the Nepali women’s squad. She has been working with the Mumbai Indians in the WPL as their batting coach.
