Thirtieth diaspora conference kicks off in Nicosia

The 30th session of the federation of Cypriot expatriates is meeting in Nicosia on Tuesday for a three-day conference.

Participants are the world federation of Cypriot expatriates (Pomak), its youth branch (Nepomak) and the coordination committee of Justice for Cyprus (Pseka).

President Nikos Christodoulides will address the event at its opening in the evening at Ktima Kousioumi.

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos will welcome the delegates. Greetings will also be addressed by House speaker Annita Demetriou, Archbishop Georgios and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, responsible for issues of Greek diaspora, George Kotsiras.

Pomak President of Andreas Papaevripides, Pseka President Philip Christopher and Nepomak President of Christos Touton will also welcome participants.

On Wednesday, the central council members of the expatriate organisations will be received by the president at the Presidential Palace. A reception will follow for all participants during which a ceremony will be held to honour accomplished Cypriots of the diaspora.

Expatriates will be informed by the ministers of foreign affairs, energy, defence and education on matters pertaining to their responsibilities.

On the last day of the conference leaders or representatives from the parliamentary parties will make their address, followed by discussion. Other governmental and non-governmental organisations will also speak on various topics.
