As Phil Mitchell started to suspect the women of their crimes, they decided they needed a scapegoat to blame the murder on.
Linda picked her brother-in-law Dean Wicks to suffer the consequences of her actions.
She has wanted revenge on him ever since he raped her in 2014, and saw this as her perfect opportunity to get him jailed – albeit not for his crime.
Stacey helped sneak the murder weapon into Dean’s flat while pretending she was there to reconnect with him.
After cops found the meat thermometer in his home he was swiftly arrested.
But Dean knows he was set up, and although he is now behind bars, he is preparing a sinister scheme of his own.
In upcoming scenes Linda is shaken when Dean’s associate Fraser turns up in her pub and attempts to force her into a bad deal.
The Vic landlady is left confused and frightened, and turns to drink once again to cope.
She turns to Jack for advice on Dean’s upcoming trial, which she has been dreading due to worries that as the evidence is presented, she will be exposed as the real murderer.
Linda descends even further into alcoholism as her anxiety over the situation gets worse and she begins to reach breaking point.
She finally has a public meltdown after receiving two blackmail letters from an unknown source, and starts hysterically accusing regulars at The Vic of sending them to her.
As Johnny attempts to calm her down, viewers will get their first glimpse of the anonymous Walford local who is secretly visiting Dean Wicks in jail and doing his bidding in EastEnders.
