Man indicted in brother's death after Horning's Hideout shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man was indicted by a Washington County Grand Jury on Monday for the death of his brother, Carl Horning, in early January at Horning's Hideout, a business the two co-owned.

Robert Horning, 63, was lodged in Washington County Jail for second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon charges.

The indictment comes after Robert Horning was named a person of interest by Washington County Sheriff's Office during the homicide investigation.

Around 9:30 a.m. Jan. 2, deputies responded to a reported shooting at the hideout on Northwest Brunswick Canyon Road, where they found a man — later identified as 47-year-old Carl Horning — with multiple gunshot wounds.

Officials said Horning died despite aid from the first responding deputy.

Robert Horning, 63, was detained at the scene and released hours later, Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

Remembering one of their own, Stefan L. Myers, a spokesperson for TVF&R, previously said in a statement the fire department was “experiencing a tragic loss," as Carl Horning also served as a lieutenant for the agency.
