England Cricket Team’s Head Coach to Have IPL Connection? Report Sparks Speculation

The cricket squad from England may be getting ready for an IPL reunion in an effort to change things up in the coaching staff. England is trying to add another well-known figure to their coaching staff as it has been reported that current white-ball head coach Matthew Mott may leave next week. England is apparently planning to remain with Jos Buttler as captain despite a dismal performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup and an unsuccessful attempt to advance to the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Buttler’s manager at the Rajasthan Royals, Kumar Sangakkara, is apparently a contender for the position of head coach.

Sangakkara is reportedly among the favorites to succeed Mott as England’s white-ball coach, according to a story in The Telegraph UK. From January 2021 until now, when the team has advanced to the IPL final, Sangakkara has served as the Director of Cricket for the Rajasthan Royals.

Under Sangakkara’s direction at the Royals, Buttler has developed into a crucial player, and the two could become close when Sangakkara is in charge of the England cricket team.

In addition to Sangakkara, reports suggest that Afghanistan’s head coach and former England batsman Jonathan Trott, as well as former Australia batsman Michael Hussey, are contenders.

In his one and a half years as head coach, Trott has guided Afghanistan to several achievements, including as finishing sixth in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals. However, Hussey has previously been in the English locker room, having worked as their batting coach from 2022 to 2023.

The article also claims that Andrew Flintoff, a former all-rounder for England, is not expected to continue running for head coach.
