Kandy Weather Update India Vs Sri Lanka 2024: Will The Third And Final T20I Get Washed Out

Rain and wet weather has followed the Indian cricket team around ever since they have landed in the Emerald Isles for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka earlier this month. The third and final T20I of the three-match series will be played at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy on Tuesday (July 30) and once again there is the possibility that this clash might get washed out.

The weather department predicts that Kandy may witness thunderstorms for a couple of hours on Tuesday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm. However, the weather should clear out by the evening when the third T20I gets underway around 7pm IST.

The temperature in the evening will be around 25 degrees celsius but the humidity will be high around 82 per cent in the evening. The humidity level will be increasing over 90 per cent by the second innings of the match around 10pm.

Rain and thunderstorms are predicted in Pallekele on Tuesday.

This means the match could witness around shower by the time the second innings of the match comes around. In the second T20I between the two sides on Sunday, rain delayed the toss for the match by half an hour and only 7 overs were possible in India’s chase which they won by DLS method.

Meanwhile, India’s ODI squad have also landed in Colombo – the capital of Sri Lanka led by skipper Rohit Sharma and Indian legend Virat Kohli. Rohit & co. were scheduled to have their first training session in Colombo ahead of the ODI series which gets underway on Friday but the scheduled practice session had to be cancelled due to rain.

The ODIs against Sri Lanka will also mark the return of Shreyas Iyer into the national side. It was in late 2023 that Iyer last played a limited-overs match for India, against South Africa in December.

The squad also features Delhi all-rounder Rana, who was a member of the IPL 2024-winning Kolkata Knight Riders’ team earlier this year. These players will train under India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in Colombo.

Each of the three ODIs will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium here. While the first match is on August 2, the second and third ODIs are on August 4 and 7 respectively.
